Does your home have a safety switch installed? While it's now a legal requirement for all new homes to have safety switches installed, not all older houses do.
Safety switches save lives by switching off the electricity if an electrical fault is detected. Different to a surge protector or circuit breaker, which are intended to save electronic equipment, safety switches are designed to save lives - and do!If a safety switch isn't installed in your home then you run the risk of you, your family or your pets coming into contact with electricity, which can lead to electrical shock, burns, breathing problems, heart failure and death.
Safety Switches must be installed by a professional, certified electrician and regularly tested to ensure they are working properly. Post your safety switch installation job with Service Central to have up to three certified electricians contact you!
Switchboard Safety Switch A switchboard safety switch is one that's installed on your switchboard. It protects selected electrical circuits in the house along with appliances and extension cords connected to powerpoints on those selected circuits.
Typically they are used to protect power outlet and lighting circuits. Switchboard safety switches must be installed by a certified electrician.
Power Point Safety Switches These safety switches are installed at the power point and are recognised by a big 'test' button on the powerpoint itself.
They will protect anything plugged into that power point (including extension cords) and some other electrical wiring and power points on the same circuit. These are most suitable in worksheds and bathrooms and should be installed at the first powerpoint after the switch board. Powerpoint safety switches must be installed by a certified electrician.
Portable Safety Switches Portable safety switches do not have to be installed by a professional. They are free units that are placed between the power point and appliance or extension cord. They are most suited to being used with decorative, temporary outdoor lights, electrical appliances such as power tools and extension leads. They will only protect things plugged into them - they will not protect anything else on the circuit.

by Service Central · Leave a CommentDid you know that malfunctioning ovens and stoves are a leading cause of electrician call-outs? Electric ovens may have become the norm but many homeowners are remarkably poorly-versed when it comes to solving basic errors in functioning. Ovens which are consistently overheating, ovens which don’t appear to turn on at all, ovens with bust lights or wonky doors and ovens which spread heat to neighbouring kitchen units are all common complaints. Here are three key steps for dealing with your issue.

Moving swiftly, forcefully and with precision, he twisted and turned, grunting in concentration.
