Upholstery is one of those words that sounds and looks a little strange the more you say it. But, it's a great idea to give your furniture a facelift rather than buying new stuff!
Do you have a piece of furniture that you love because it's comfy but hate because it's colour and textures are faded or outdated, or if your other possessions clash?
It's a great idea to re-upholster old furniture rather than replace is completely. Sometimes we've invested a lot of money in our furniture but just feel like a change, and re-upholstery is like a facelift for furniture. There's even the bottom version ie upholstery repair - where you don't necessarily re-upholster the whole piece, but you have tears repaired or portions of upholstery replaced.
When you re-upholster, choose your fabric carefully - it's easy to get lost with the amount of choice that you have. A great idea is to go to a furniture shop to find your fabric, because when you see fabric (especially patterns and textures) on a similar piece it's easier to get a perfect fit.
Upholsterers will usually offer a warranty on the upholstery (obviously not on the structure). They should also include collection and drop off of the piece in their price or allow you to transport the piece to a workshop. Some repairs can be done on site, and even some re-upholstery can also be (although it's relatively rare).
