Tips on hiring bobcats, DIY tools and machinery!

DIY is great, loads of fun, and cost effective. But sometimes you need either a professional company to do the job or to hire machinery that will help you do it yourself. Tips on hiring tools and machinery here!

  • First off - it's an obvious one. Post your job on Service Central and save yourself the great big phone-around!
  • Work out your schedule, including how long it will take you to get the machinery back. Most hire companies work on a 24 hour clock and will charge you for a full day if you return the tool later (besides maybe holding someone else up who's booked the hire after you).
  • Ask your hire company how long they think your job will take. They speak to people like you every day and have a lot of knowledge about this!
  • Do the job all-in-one. For example, de-wallpapering your house in one session (although sometimes a daunting task) will save you both rental costs and cleanup time.
  • If you need additional materials, buy extra in case you run out. For example, if you're sanding your floors, purchase more than enough sandpaper (this saves time if you run out halfway through). Our excellent hire companies can also usually advise you on how much material you'll use.
  • Have fun. Playing with powerful machinery is ALWAYS fun, even when it gets a little bit tiring.
