Spring cleaning vs seasonal cleaning

Spring cleaning - these days it feels a lot like a myth. Who only deep cleans once a year anyway? Especially in our cities, pollution and dust builds up on almost every surface, and quickly too!

For lots of our customers, hiring a professional to do a deep clean of their home every quarter is far more likely. Seasonal cleaning, if you like!

So what's involved in a seasonal clean?

Curtains and blinds cleaning

You might pass the vacuum cleaner over the curtains ever so often, or dust the cracks of your blinds, but the dust and dirt that accumulates at the top of your curtains and blinds, plus your curtain rail, can be difficult to remove the longer you leave it. A professional cleaning company will take down your curtains and blinds, clean them, and replace them - removing those areas of dust that the eye can't see but over time become far more difficult to clean.

Windows

We hear our customers say 'every time I have my windows washed I realise how much of a difference it makes to my home'. And it does - clean windows let more pure light in, and don't give you that hazy perception of the outside world. Whether you live in a single story house or an apartment block, a professional cleaning company will do a great job of shining up your windows.

Kitchen cupboards

Cleaning the insides of your kitchen cupboards is a pain but such an important job to do more than once a year. Spilled sugar or groceries can attract ants and pests, and oil residue can build up and destroy some types of cupboards. It's also important to clean to prevent a build up of mould or mildew - especially around areas lie your stove or kettle, as the steam can create a very happy environment for fungus and mould.

Ceilings

Like Joey found when he removed the wallpaper with a steamer, it becomes pretty obvious that the ceiling needs to be cleaned when you have droplets of dirty water clinging to it. We often don't think about it, but ceilings can get dirty too - especially in the kitchen where tiny globules of food (especially fat) can rise up and adhere to the ceiling over time.

Grout cleaning

Grout cleaning is tedious and time consuming. Regularly cleaning grout makes it far less time consuming but it'll always be tedious. This is one job that swings many of our customers over to the idea of hiring a professional - because they do have the tools and solutions to deep clean without hours of scrubbing with a tiny, ineffective brush.

Oven cleaning

Unless you have a self-cleaning oven, regularly cleaning it is an imperative. Burned food ingrained inside your oven can affect how your food cooks and add strange aromas and flavours to baking and more delicate items like souffles and cakes.

Cleaning behind appliances

Moving appliances to clean behind them (like fridges, washing machines and ovens) should be done seasonally too. We've all had that realisation that it's totally disgusting 'back there' when we've replaced an appliance or lost something valuable down the back of it, so regular maintenance is a must.

There are lots of other services that a professional cleaning company will offer, including carpet cleaning (which is important to remove allergens as well as dirt) and gutter cleaning.

  • Sometimes it is difficult to remove dirt buildup in tiles and grouts. Occasionally I subscribe to the professional services of a cleaning company if a special occasion will demand it.
