They say that when you assume you make an "ass out of U and Me". Learn how one business assumed an interstate phone number was wrong and lost a national contract.
We had an interesting one the other day – a job was posted for a Victorian suburb with a South Australian phone number. The businesses that responded immediately assumed that the number was wrong, so applied for a refund… Big mistake!
The actual situation was far different, as reported by the customer. “XX are a Australia wide company. The store that needed work was in Victoria as per the notes. My contact number is and Adelaide number as that is where my office is. I organise all repairs and maintenance for all our stores around the country.”
What a waste! Lesson to learn – never assume anything, and always try your best to follow up.
