Home Hacks for Winter

The Winter Season wouldn’t be that delightful when cold is constantly creeping up into your home and the cold wouldn’t budge for days. Keep the spirit of winter alive starting in your homes. With these home hacks for winter, you’ll surely be spreading those smiles in no time.

To avoid water leaks inside your homes, better keep your gutter free of leaves and other debris. When heavy ice and snow come pouring down, they’ll be mixing with those garbage, blocking the water from freely flowing in your gutter and causing leaks into your home.

To keep your home even more dry, you can create your own pebble boot tray for everybody’s winter shoes. It’s an easy DIY that you could make yourself. It’ll drain rain and snow well.

Keep the cold outside by layering your curtains. It’s another excuse to be extra decorative for the whole season.

Another fun way to keep the cold air from creeping through doors and windows is to place fabric drafts under doors and window sills. Make one by sewing a tube of fabric and make sure it fits the width of your window or door.

And since you’ll be shutting out the air from outside, it is best to condition the circulating air inside your homes. Put a new, clean air filter. You can even double air filtering plants as seasonal decorations.

Have Christmas in July and make sure Santa could slip into your chimneys “cleanly” . Pre-check your chimneys before using them. You’ll never know what lurks inside it when you haven’t used it for the past months -- birds, soots or animal nests.

Secure firewood for a cozy night by the fireplace. Storing them wouldn’t be a problem since you can use display them on a corner as authentic country decorations. Just make sure you have a nice box to hold it in and some accessories likes lamp to accentuate it.

Another important thing to check are your pipes -- whether they’r inside or outside your homes. You’ll need to insulate them with thermal covers to keep the water flowing.

Outside, you may need to drain your hoses if you still want to use them after winter.

Lastly, make your home smell like an American Christmas! Simmer an orange, cranberry and cinnamon potpourri in a pot. Or you could glue cinnamon sticks around a candle and tie it with a red ribbon. The sense of smell is a powerful tool to trigger the rest of the senses.
