Want a house with glamorous furniture, but without paying the thousands of dollars price? Then you might just want to follow the latest fashion - renting a whole room (or more!) worth of furnishings.
Thanks to home makeover tv shows, more people are looking for ways to renovate their home without knocking down walls. And the easiest way to achieve this is...? A new furniture suite.
But who can afford buying a new couch to match the brand new feature wall? Especially when you're trying to keep up with fashions that can change with the seasons? (Well, maybe some people can afford it - but I know I certainly can't!).
Enter the furniture rental companies.
Always popular with the real estate market, rental furniture can be great for property styling and display homes. The temporary furnishings can go a long way to improving how people react to a home during the inspection - which can then be reflected in the final sale price.
Rental furniture can also come in very handy around the holiday seasons, when you might need an extra bed temporarily or a spare fridge to handle the overflow.
But recently rental furniture is attracting more than just the temporary crowd, with some people looking for full time rental furnishings, often used to outfit an entire room! Why has it become so popular? Well, there are a few reasons, but probably the main one is...
It can be tough making a decision when it comes to buying furniture. Particularly if you can see your situation changing sometime in the near future. This is especially true to people with young, growing families; renters who might be looking to move out soon; and people with a low but steady income, who can't afford the initial cost of high quality furniture.
As a result, for the past five years the furniture-rental market has been growing strongly. To the point that today it appears that more people are inclined to rent furniture than the traditional electrical goods, such as televisions and other whitegoods.
So there you have it, next time you start daydreaming of a new lounge suite but decide it's out of your reach, maybe you should take a look at a furniture rental company instead!

I did this when I lived in the U.S. some time ago. I had a flat with a mate, we were both in the Navy & couldn't be encumbered with furniture. Best option ever. Decked our pad out with class. Reasonable cost & when it was time to ship out... Gone with a phone call. Many years later and selling a home in Berwick soon. Thinking... Old stuff to storage display stuff rented. Hope it helps.
