Dulux has recently undertaken a survey to discover the world's most popular colours and the results are actually a little surprising.
We all know that colours can mean different things. Our reaction to different colours can vary from a sudden stop at a big red light to sudden relaxation when we're surrounded by calming blue.
However you'd think that a lot of our colour preferences would be culture dependent - after all, this is what we grew up with an are used to. Well, not so, says Dulux Paints. Surprisingly, colour tastes are very similar across the globe.
The survey sampled people from 30 different countries and discovered that actually age and gender have a much larger impact on colour preference than anything else.
So, on to the colourful results!
The winner of the most popular colour goes to........ Blue! Red and green came in close behind while yellow, brown, orange and purple fell into the bottom placings. Yellow was the least favourite of all, with only 5% of those surveyed selecting it as their preferred colour.
Blue was preferred by both men and women. Meanwhile green's popularity varied with age - those over 50 liked it while those under 50 weren't as interested. Orange also varied with age - everyone disliked it more as they got older!
As for interior decorating, in North America beiges and grey proved the most popular colours for interior walls while Asians (India and China) preferred more colourful tones including yellows, pinks and blues.
