Looking for a weekend project to kick-start the warmer season? Don’t delay. Australian summer can be pretty inhospitable when it comes to facilitating any outdoor handiwork. Now’s the time to start thinking properly about larger installations - pools and outdoor decks for entertaining in balmy weather - but that doesn’t mean you can’t spruce up your property yourself with a few simple tasks that are bound to get your home ready for that summer onslaught.
It may not be very glamorous but backyard upkeep is hugely important when we’re approaching bushfire season. This includes cleaning out the gutters, sweeping, clearing leaf litter off your property, thinning scrub and trimming any trees or shrubs overhanging parts of the home. If you’re unsure about how best to protect your property, speak to one of our landscapers and they’ll point you in the right direction.
Now is the perfect time for painting, especially outdoors - while it’s hot enough to allow for a quick dry, it’s not quite so smouldering that you can’t bring yourself to get started in the first place. Renewing the paint on your shed or garage is a great way to brighten up a garden after the wet winter - and if it’s done properly, it can last a good many years. If you’re working with galvanised iron, pay careful attention to preparing the surface - you may need to strip the protective oily coating entirely.
Spring cleaning may not be a big thing in Australia, but there’s really no better time to get into a good bathroom overhaul. With the coldest weather behind us, it’s important to start afresh before the summer creepy crawlies and moulds take hold. Baking soda and white vinegar are your best friends - a good deep clean should include soaking shower fittings, scrubbing shower and bath surfaces, cleaning or even re-sealing grout, wiping down tiled splashbacks and sinks, bleaching the toilet, unclogging drains and ventilation fans, and washing towels.
