We want to waterproof the concret slab and install tiles on the front patio of the house. Problem: The house is a split level house and the room at the lower level gets damp every time it rains... We want to waterproof the concret slab and install tiles on the front patio of the house. Problem: The house is a split level house and the room at the lower level gets damp every time it rains for long periods. Also when we hose the patio, especially hosing at the joints between the slab and the external wall. History: We have protected the front of the house by building a drainage ditch along the concrete slab at the front and at the right side of the house. We dug a trench, 2 meters deep, installing an arc pipe at the bottom of the trench on a downhill level, filling up with blue metal approx 80% and the rest with top soil and covered with grass. Despite this the lower room stll has a problem with water build-up. We believe that happens because moisture and water leaks into the suface of the concrete slab.
