Shower head and taps fixing/replacement

I'm having to turn my shower taps off tighter and tighter to stop them dripping - guessing something's not a good thing. I'd also like to change the shower head to a multi-function hand held unit, and may as well replace the taps to match at the same time. I haven't bought the shower head yet - need to be guided on what to get, size of taps etc.
