Laundry drain gurgles and water comes out when washing machine is on

I recently noticed that when the washing machine is on, during two points of the wash water tends to come out of the drain pipe and form a small puddle in the laundry (including foam and bubbles in the early part of the wash) then just water towards the end of the wash.
Im not too sure if this is a result of blockage in the pipes?
