Gas hot water systerm not working

hi, i have gas hotwater systerm in a rental property, brand is 'chaffoteaux et maury" . i dont knw the model/liter or how old it is, but it is quite small and hanging on the side of my kitchen cabinet. it's about 62cm length and 33 cm width.
sometimes it works fine, but other times it not heating up water for a few days. I dont know what is wrong with it. and not sure if i shall repair or install new one.
