Fix EL Falcon that will not start

I have a Duel Fuel Ford Falcon EL sedan 1996 that will not start. You can crank the engine over until the battery is dead and occasionally it will fire up for a couple of seconds but then instantly dies. I had the distributor and coil pack replaced not more than 12 months ago with Bosch branded ones and has only done about 12.000km since replacement. When trying to start on either fuel you can smell both gas and petrol getting to the engine. I have gone through the relays and fuses and the smart lock to see if that is the issue but so far nothing has worked. The previous mechanic replaced the wiring harness plug leading to the distributor as that was loose/faulty when the distributor was replaced.The mechanic also upped the ignition timing to make it run smoother but resulted in it being a lot less economical and it would back fire on gas from time to time blowing the vacuum tube to the map sensor off each time. I am looking for someone who can diagnose the fault and fix it without it costing me a fortune. I can have the car towed but would prefer a mobile mechanic to come out and look at it.
