We are looking at options to economically convert an existing brick garage space (4.8m long by 2.9m wide, with a floor space of approx. 14m2) into a comfortable study/studio space. This is the... We are looking at options to economically convert an existing brick garage space (4.8m long by 2.9m wide, with a floor space of approx. 14m2) into a comfortable study/studio space. This is the front part of a long 2-section garage/shed. Our thinking at this stage is to install double glazed sliding doors in the north-facing entrance (current garage doorway opening is 2.32 wide by 2.04 high) and a double glazed replacement window (1.66 wide by 0.66 high), and possibly a roof window or skylight. The existing corrugated iron roof slopes from the eastside brick wall (internal ceiling height approx 2.42) to the westside brick wall (internal ceiling height approx 2.00). The ceiling should be lined and insulated. We think internal framing, insulation and panelling/plaster will be needed for the 3 main walls and ceiling. The concrete floor is uneven and cracked and will need to be fixed, and/or new internal flooring installed. The guttering needs replacing. We’d also like external cladding of some sort to make the studio look really smart. Power is currently supplied to the garage and provides a single powerpoint. Internal lighting, electricals, fitout and storage is required but the exact internal layout design is still to be determined. Ideally we’d like somebody to come over to check out the job, talk through options, give us an acceptable quote and then be in a position to get cracking! There’s also more work to be done around the place for the right people, but this is where we’d like to start first.
