Repair cannon carlton gas log heater will not stay on

We have a cannon carlton log gas heater, installed in 2000. when we switch it on it goes for a short time and then dies away. been like this for about a week. this also happened about 2 months back during very heavy wet weather but after 3 days and with drier weather, it worked again. we got the gas company out and they changed their meter and said it could have been a blocked filter. this time the gas company took a good look and advised that it is not a supply problem.
we have waited to see if it rights itself but the weather has been fine for a few days now and no luck. everything looks ok. we can see the spark and the flame but it just doesn't last. we have the manual.
