Heater repair very old pilot wont stay on

The pilot light on my wall heater will not stay lit after the heater is switched off from the panel. the heater appears to be quite old, i don't know when it was last serviced (if ever) and the wall above the heater is cracking. i don't know if this issue is related to the heater but i am a little concerned and have stopped using the heater.
