Assess usability of my fire place

I recently had a gas space heater removed to reveal what looks like a fire place. The wall the fire place is in backs onto the garage wall and their is a brick chimney running up this wall. But it stops at the roof, where a metal flue then continues running above the foof line. The top of the internal fire place is blocked with a concrete (or similar) slab, with a hole in the centre, through which a metal flue runs up vertically. I lit some screwed up paper in the fire place and it drew really well, but I couldn't tell if any smoke came out from the flue on the roof. I need someone to please inspect the job, remove the slab and assess whether there is an internal chimney and if a brick chimney needs then to be built above the roofline, that meets regulations and will allow me to have a working fire place. I will need a quote for this as well.
