New hand railing to be put on front deck of house & sml gate installed

We have a western red cedar home. it currently has a front deck that my husband put in approx. 12 months ago. i am not keen on the slats (i hope that's the right word) used for the railing & would like to have these taken down & new railings to be put in. i don't think the timber used for the railings now would be any good for the upcoming job unfortunately. i am happy to supply any timber required, if needed. we also have (where the deck drops down the side of the house to the ground) a medium sized opening on the side of the deck which ideally i would like to be covered with an access door/gate as it doesn't look nice all open & i'd like to store small items under the deck.
