Repair smll section newly laid timb flrs, dog chewed a 1x1ft gouge out of it

Our dog has scratched/chewed a 1 ft x 1 ft gouge in our newly laid timber flooring. he has gone throught the laquer, right down to the wood. i would guess it either has to be properly sanded back and re-varished, or possibly that portion removed and re-laid. main damage is to the varnish, hasn't dug a hole in the wood but definately scratched it significantly.
