**WARNING** Engage this provider at your own risk, he abandoned my job half-way through & took full payment for it.On Friday 27th of March I hired Andrew Maclean of Laydown Floors to lay approx. 30 sqm of laminate flooring at $20 per metre (= &600 total, including laying approx 30m of edging). As I was unable to be there on the day I arranged for him to collect his payment from my Estate Agent's office at the end of the day. I unfortunately ran out of the laminate, but he assured me that if I purchased more over the weekend that he would return on the following Monday. Guess what? He took all my money & never returned!!! After many emails to Service Central about this, it turns out that they are unwilling to help- it's his word against mine. He told them that I agreed to pay his travel costs-which is rediculous, whoever heard of paying a tradesman's travel costs? You would just find someone else to do the job wouldn't you? So, to anyone out there who thinks that using Service Central provides you with any sort of protection against shonky providers, think again. It seems to me that they are only interested in taking their fees from anyone who is willing to pay them, there is no Quality Assurance & when things turn sour with a dodgy tradesman they are all too quick to wash their hands of it.
