Clems Electrical installed 2 ceiling fans with lights in my apartment; about a month later the power went off due to the Safety Switch kicking in. This happened around midnight so after fumbling for a torch I tried, to no avail, to get the power back on. In the morning I still could not get the power to come back on (and stay on) so I got a different electrician out to investigate. It was discovered that the cause of the problem was an exposed wire in one of the new fans. The cost of this call-out was close to $200. Clems Electrical told me I would need to have a lot of extra work done to comply with some new regulations coming in soon. It was claimed that I would require a smoke detector in EVERY room of the apartment and the combined power/light safety switch needed to be split into 2 separate safety switches. After investigation, I found that the new regulations didn't apply to my residence. I am glad I did the research and didn't pay for lots of extra unnecessary work. When I received a quote for the job all prices were listed with an hourly rate. There was no mention of GST so I assumed that the amount quoted was the amount that I would have to pay. I got quite a shock when the invoice was 10% more than what I was expecting. However, after I pointed out the quoted amount the GST portion was removed. Needless to say, I was not very impressed with the whole experience and will not be contacting this electrician again.
