Electric hot water system needs checking as it keeps tripping safety switch

Over the last week my Rheem electric hot water system has tripped the safety switch however I have been able to switch it back on and it's worked. It tripped 3 times over the last week. Yesterday I had a plumber look at it who says that from a plumbing perspective it's fine and the issue would need to be looked at by an electrician. Over night it has tripped the safety switch and I am now not able to reset it it will trip straight away meaning that I now have no hot water and need this looked at urgently
