Double brick home 1930s needs new switch board and a mains upgrade?

we have a double brick house, when electricians were trying to install solar panels they found that our switch board needed replacing and they said it would probably need a mains upgrade (not sure what that means). The switch also needs to be moved to 1800mm as per the regs. Eventually we want to rewire the house also though that will be phase 2.
