Extension to front of a 30+ yo kit home in Peterborough

Current house is a basic rectangle across the block and I am wanting to add a bedroom by going forward on one side, making an "L" shape. Bedroom aprox 4.8W X 3 or 3.6m coming forward from the main house.
This will be stage 1 of our building project as we intend to put on a second story in the future, so would like to keep this in mind when setting roof lines etc.
