Garage remote not working

remote control is programmed to operate electric gate & garage door (b&d roller door). the remote opens the gate, but no longer opens the garage door. sometimes when pressing the button for the gate, the gate & garage door both open (they were never programmed to open together). remote is a generic unit with 4 buttons numbered in roman numerals. just need remote fixed , not looking to replace remote operating system on gate or garage door.
