I am looking for someone who can be involved longer-term in the above projects though. Our work is lumpy, but you could probably expect 1-2 days now and an average of 5 hours a week ongoing for the right person.

I backed up and restored factory settings (reinstalled windows) and it worked fine until last night. Now when I turn the screen on it has lines all over it and has weird dollar signs and codes when it starts up in DOS. I tried to restore factory settings again but the screen shuts off when it tries to install windows. I want to repair the laptop if it costs less than $200, I will want a quote if it will cost more than this and I will make a decision as to whether or not I want it repaired.
