I have a fireplace in my kitchen that currently has a wood fired stove fitted. I would like to make the internal space wider by at least one brick, remove the brick arch making the space higher and remove the extra depth of the lower section so it matches the top. The top section of the chimney breast does not extend to the full width of the lower half so a different lintel will be necessary and perhaps some engineering advice may be required. I can supply images of the space in question.
