Proposed Rectification
The four defective trusses should be repaired in place because replacing the trusses, while preferable, would involve significant disruption to the in-roof services.
I recommend engaging a trade qualified builder to:
• Remove the roof tiles over the four defective trusses and beyond the trusses by 1200mm both sides (two truss spacings).
• Remove the plasterboard from the ceiling of the family and dining area.
• Over-prop the damaged trusses by positioning props and spreader beams under the truss node points (nail plate location). Use the props to lift the bottom chord of the defective trusses to bring them level with the undamaged trusses each side of
the defective area.
• Trim and remove the detached diagonal web member from each defective truss.
The defective nail plate shall NOT be removed.
• Install new 120 x 35 MGP12 web splice members both sides of the defective truss
web. Screw fix the web splice in accordance with the attached detail.
• Remove the props from the trusses and allow the trusses to re-settle.
• Reinstall roof tiles to the affected roof area.
• Shim the bottom chord to match adjacent trusses. Engage a plasterer install new
plasterboard ceiling to the kitchen/dining.
• Engage a painter to repaint the internal surfaces after the work is complete.
