With winter fast approaching, there’s never been a more annoying time for spouting a leak. But getting your hot water system back on track isn’t the only thing occupying plumbing services. Here are the most common household emergencies you may experience.
Did you know the word “plumber” comes from the Latin for lead? Luckily for our hardy modern day plumbers, lead is no longer used in building pipe networks. Today, plumbing is an incredibly diverse industry. As well as diagnosing and solving piping issues in the bathroom, laundry and toilet, most plumbers are also skilled in gas fitting services, including kitchen appliance installation. They are also available for consultations on renovation plans which involve rerouting piping or putting in new wetrooms.
Dripping taps probably top the list - as well as being an absolute pain, they won’t do any favours for your water bill. Problems with water pressure in the shower are also very common, usually caused by sediment build-up on aerators. Leaky pipes and leaky toilets frequently make an appearance.
Often a household will require an emergency plumbing service for reasons of timing - for instance, if you discover your toilet is blocked a few hours before your authentic Indian spice bonanza. Of course, the classic of Hollywood plumbing problems is the lost valuable - some poor sod who accidentally drops their phone, wallet or engagement ring down the loo. Unfortunately, most plumbing disasters are decidedly mundane and not amusing in the slightest - for instance, gas leaks or sewer pipe issues (these can be a real stink!) However, a quick response is often key to avoiding both inconvenience and long-term structural damage. Further, if you’re dealing with a gushing leak, it’s best to get it shut off before water damage or to simply prevent a phenomenal water bill. Shutting off your home’s main water supply obviously isn’t something you want to extend for a few days. In contrast, a minor blocked drain or a water pressure usually isn’t as pressing.
