The Yellow Pages has Shrunk

Well like many Melbournians, we received our new Yellow Pages the other day... and realised, like many of you will have, that there's not quite as much of it as there used to be.

Where before we got a myriad of Yellow Pages books (A-K, L-Z and even a 'mini' Yellow for the car - which went straight in the recycling) it's now been reduced to just the one.

Smaller in size (but wider in girth) the new Yellow Pages definitely hints at what we've all been wondering - that the Yellow Pages print directory simply isn't the bohemith that it used to be.

Yellow pages has shrunk

Once upon a time the Yellow Pages was the start - and end - of a business' advertising efforts. But with online directories and search engines rapidly taking the lead in this advertising space, it appears that Australian businesses are now catching on and making the switch.

Here in the office we're wondering if this new smaller, fatter Yellow Pages will be as useful at holding up our monitors as the old ones were. Personally I'm just glad that I only have one book to worry about this year rather than the three I've had in past years!

Did you bother advertising your business in this year's Yellow Pages? Will you even keep the book? Tell us in the comments below.

  • It is a disgraceful waste of trees and other resources. I wish Sensis would stop distributing it, but have it available to pick up at Newsagents or by phone order for those few people (very few I suspect) that still need and want it. Even yellow pages on line is USELESS. I go straight to Google and get a much faster and more reliable answer, often with immediate links to the business.

  • Surprised that is still exists..
It has to be the most expensive advertising vehicle around.
Additionally it is run by Sensis one of the most inefficient organisations I have ever run into.

  • The Article mentioned online directory, well yeah nothing is bigger than Yellowpages.com.au- purchasing a yellow online ad got me 60% of my new business last year. And as for the search engines they've all alligned partnerships with Yellow to help thier own online presence.

  • Hi Happy with Yellow, you might want to check your statistics. According to Alexa.com yellowpages.com.au is no longer the largest directory in Australia. Their popularity in the online space seems to be declining as well.
