If things remain the same for long period of time we gradually start feeling bored of them, we seek soothing changes in our surroundings to keep ourselves happily involved in our daily routines; and that’s the very reason why we feel the need to renovate our homes and offices. Renovation is a tricky business. If it’s not done properly, you’ll have to wear the consequences.
Can I do this?:
A question that arises in every mind before plunging into an ordeal of DIY Renovation. And sometimes our mind assures us that “yes, you can do this” without analyzing the details involved in the renovation process which eventually leads you into a compromising situation where you need the help of a professional which you could have gained before messing with the things yourself. Of course that is embarrassing; however we can avoid that by cautiously estimating the complexity of the project. The better question to ask would be “Do I have the required skills for this renovation?”
Budget constraints:
Most people will say that “In the end, it’s all about money”. Your renovation project strictly depends on the amount of money you have decided to spend on it. Another important trap to avoid while restricting your costs in the assigned budget would be buying cheap supplies, such as paint, brushes and masking tape. These materials would not give you the desired final result as they are not made according to the standards of quality to higher priced items hence resulting in more expenses incurred on redoing the place. Moreover it is advisable to keep 10 to 20 percent of renovation cost in surplus to meet any shortcomings during the project.
Plumbing and Electrical issues:
Plumbing and electrical issues are most crucial ones. If you don’t have any knowledge or a registered licence of dealing with electric appliances and wiring, you better avoid taking these matters in to your own hand as an electric shock may be deadly or even burn down your whole place leaving you possibly hurt, killed or in a pile of ashes instead of cherished moments of enjoying a renovated home. Taps and showers often become leaky and result in wastage of water therefore changing such problematic items would really give you a sense of comfort. Before dealing with plumbing and electrical issues make sure that you have taken all the precautions and arranged the required tool set for the job, or better yet get a professional!
Getting the sequence right:
A successful renovation needs to be sequential. Otherwise you’ll find yourself in a never ending mess. For instance clean carpets should be installed after the paint on walls dries. It’s just the matter of common sense so just be careful that you don’t axe your efforts by choosing the wrong sequence of renovation.
