Here is a list of tools that we have found useful over the years. They help us measure, monitor and benchmark our visitors.

Alexa

Alexa is a free service from Amazon that lets you get a rough estimate on how your traffic levels compare with your competitors. We are not saying that it is accurate, however we have found it very useful over the years. It only works if you get over 100,000 visitors per month to your site.

Chartbeat

Chartbeat is a great service that gives you real time information about how many people are on your site at any point in time, and where they are. We've found it a great tool. Google Analytics provides you with high level information and broad trends, but its amazing what you will learn about your site and your visitors when you look at them on this micro scale. In particular, we love watching Chartbeat when a major campaign goes out, its great to see the graph spike!
