How much of a rebate will you get?
There are no 'Tasmanian' rebates as such, but there are rebates available from the City of Hobart for $500 per solar hot water system or heat pump installed.
Are you eligible?
- You have to pay rates to the City of Hobart and the property must be in Hobart, but no mention is made of a requirement for the property to be your primary residence.
- The solar hot water system must be installed between 1st July 2007 and 31st December 2011
- The heat pump hot water system must be installed between 1st November 2008 and 31 December 2011
- The new system must replace an electric hot water system
- The new system must be eligible for at least 20 REC's
- Installation must be done by a qualified plumber
How do you claim your rebate?
Apply by application form available here and forward it (together with the necessary documentation) to:

- Hobart City Council Customer Service Officer, Julie Haygarth
- GPO BOX 503 Hobart 7001
You'll receive the rebate in the form of credits on your rates statement and applications usually take about 2 weeks.
