State solar hot water rebates: Northern Territory

Read on for info about the Northern Territory's rebates for investment in Solar hot water systems.

How much of a rebate will you get?

The rebates are based on how expensive the installation of the system will be. If the roof has timber trusses and will need structural reinforcement to cater for the installation of the solar hot water system, then you can get up to $1000 rebate. If your roof has steel trusses then you can get up to $400.

Are you eligible?

Your home must have been built before the year 2000 and it must be your primary residence. The system installed must be eligible for at least 20 REC's and the following:

  • replace an electric hot water system
  • include a 'one-shot' booster switch
  • be purchased and installed after 28 June 2009
  • be installed by an appropriately licensed and qualified electrician or plumber
  • be completely installed and working

You can apply as a tenant as long as the landlord's permission is granted for installation, and costs must be sorted out between landlord and tenant.

How do you claim your rebate?

Once the installation is complete and you receive your certificate of compliance, you apply to Power and Water using the application form on their website here. You must do this within 6 months of installation.

Payment will be made via EFT (direct into your nominated bank account) within 8 weeks of application.
