In addition to the RECs, the Federal Government also makes provision for two other rebates under the Federal Government Renewable Energy Bonus Scheme. One of $1000 for installing a solar hot water system or $600 for installing a heat pump hot water system.
These must be installed to replace existing electric storage systems and only in homes which are eligible under the scheme (new build houses are excluded from participating in this scheme). The rebate must be applied for by the owner of the house and can not be accessed by any commercial business on behalf of their clients.
In order to be considered eligible for this rebate you must qualify under the following criteria:
In order to apply for this rebate, your application must be made within 62 days after it’s been installed and you must provide proof of purchase with your application – so keep your receipts!
If you’re living in a rental property then either the tenant or the owner can apply for this rebate, but the tenant must have written approval from their landlord before proceeding with an installation of a new system or a claim for a rebate.
Remember that if you received or applied for the old Insulating Australian Household Rebate (the rebate offered for installing ceiling insulation) then you will not be eligible to receive this rebate.
If you don't want to work out the rebates and costs associated with solar hot water systems yourself, why not post a job on Service Central today? You'll get advice and quotes from up to three qualified Solar professionals.
Incentives are not just for solar hot water systems - there is also investment and support in solar PV systems in the form of feed-in tariffs that are also structured at a state level.
