Whoever said scientists are boring? This one is a helluva dare devil. Watch as he gets dangerously close - too close - to a lake of swirling lava. You have to wonder if he just didn't realise how close that active, boiling lava was.
Narrated by Richard Hammond, this snippet is taken from his BBC series 'Journey to the Centre of the Planet'.
The volcano is Nerigongo, and when it last erupted in 2002 nearly 400,000 people had to be evacuated. Why? Because no one outruns lava.
Thankfully in this instance the scientist is safe, presumably along with his precious sample, but he really does get a bit too close for comfort. The edge of the rim rapidly becomes a spillover for the lava just minutes after he was standing there.
