Guide to Space Heating

Wondering how you can heat your home this winter without running up a huge bill? Sounds like space heating is the solution! Learn more about space heating and how to choose the right heating for your home.

This time of year we're always trying to find ways to keep warm. From flannelette sheets to sealing up every crack we can find, sometimes it just isn't enough and you need to give in and buy a space heater

But what space heater is suitable?

Generally when considering space heaters we'll have a choice between the radiant, fan forced heater and the oil column heater.

Fan-forced radiant heaters are great for instant gratification, but not so good on the power bill. I'd recommend them for the lounge room where you want that comforting warmth blowing across you and heating the room.

Finned, oil column heaters are slower at generating warmth (although some have a rapid heat function) but will generally be cheaper to run as once the oil has heated up the fan can turn off.

I recommend oil heaters for the bedroom and suggest you turn them on low a few hours before heading to bed, that way the heater will get a chance to warm up the room before you go to sleep.

Whichever heater you choose, remember a space heater is exactly that - a heater designed to warm up a small space. It will be most efficient in smaller spaces, so remember to segment your house (even if that means hanging a heavy curtain between the loungeroom and hall) and close up your blinds as soon as the house starts cooling down in the evenings.
