Going Green is Good for Business

A recent report reveals that building green is very good for business.

Green, environmentally sustainable buildings have been a major trend in the industry over the past few years. Solar panels for heat and power generation, water tanks for water conservation, improved building materials to reduce heat loss, improved building design for energy efficiency... the list goes on.

And so it should - we're improving the quality of life for ourselves and future generations. There aren't many better causes than that.

However it's also becoming clear that building green is good for business, too.

A recent report from the Australian Property Institute and Property Funds Association revealed that 'green' buildings were being valued up to 12% higher than their 'non-green' counterparts and fetching a 5% premium on rent.

Green buildings were also more popular, with reduced vacancies and outgoings.

It is expected that this 'green premium' won't go unnoticed by investors, with more clients desiring environmentally friendly buildings for both commercial and domestic ventures, with the hope that they'll see a better return at the end of it.

So next time you encounter a building project, remember the benefits of 'going green' and whether you're a business advising clients or a home renovator weighing up the costs, hopefully it'll be that bit easier to 'Go Green'.
