Washing machine gets stuck on each stage of cycle

We have a Simpson 701 Heavy duty washing mashine. (Serial # 74821493)
The machine seems to get stuck at each stage of the cycle (doesn\\\'t click over to the next step). If we click it over by hand (manually), the next step starts but again does not click over to the next step once that step is complete.
We also need a new handle for the washing machine.
