Vinatge 1950's turntable tone arm needs servicing

The tone arm on my Garrand record player is not working as it should. It is stiff at the beginning point of record play then frees up throughout the middle causing it to skip and jump. It is also stiff at the end of each record play and in fact will not play through until the end of the record. I have adjusted the weight on the tone arm but that has made little to no difference.
