Treadmill going to max speed & unable to turn speed down or treadmill off

When i turn on my Jazfit treadmill and change the speed using the buttons on either the console or handlebars the speed goes automatically to maximum and I am unable to get it to lower the speed. When this happens the stop button on the console doesnt work and the only way to stop it is by removing the emergency stop clip or turning off the power switch.
I am also looking for a replacement battery cover for my pro-form cross trainer, as mine is broken and am unable to get batteries to stay in to get it to work.
