SMEG Dishwasher not draining water (appears to be stuck in cycle)

The Dishwasher (SMEG model PL 623 X-1) seems to be stuck at the point in the cycle where the water should be discharged. There's no gurgling sound like water is trying to get out (ie: not blocked filter), the hose is not kinked etc. So it just sits in the status humming indefinatley (it doesn's click through the remaining cycles, it just hangs there at the first rinse). Been fine otherwise, it's approx 4 or 5 years old.
