Rangehood repair - fan works but lights don't!

We have replaced the halogen globes twice, the first time they worked for about 5 mins, and now, with new globes again, still nothing. It isn't the overall electrics for the rangehood, as the fan settings (on all speeds) still work. We're guessing its the transformer, but not sure? Also we're unsure of the brand of rangehood, as we recently purchased the house and there is no manual and no brand logo on the unit.
