I have a convair finesse wall furnace (gas) where the fan won't switch on

the heater lights fine, when i turn on the fan it won't start. i turn the power of for aprox 8-10 hrs and all works fine for a week or so then it happens again. the top of the wall furnace also gets quite warm.
