Gianni brand (DW101F-GI) - Dishwasher dial doesn't move

The dial has stopped moving by itself. MAchine works when teh dial is moved manually. Last week the door spring broke. I replaced the spring with a slightly weaker strength. Not sure if this coudl be contributing to the fault.
