Planning a Landcaping Project made Easy!

Wanting to transform your garden into your own personal paradise but not sure where to start? Don’t be scared off by the unknown! We’ve put together a few key ideas you should have in mind when planning your next landscaping project.

1. Talk about what you want

It sounds simple, but discussing your preferences with the people around you and getting a picture for what you want is extremely important. Don’t be frightened to do a bit of research and talk to the professionals to get a clear idea on what’s possible and what isn’t. Every person and garden is different, so it’s important to decide on what approach is best for you.

2. Decide your budget early on and keep to it

After you’ve gotten an idea for what you’re wanting you should be able to decide on a pretty clear budget for yourself. Stick to this and maybe allow a 10 – 15% leeway for the unexpected. It’s easy to speak to people and get bigger and bigger ideas, but in the end it’s better for the garden (and your wallet) if you can keep to one plan and budget.

3. Patience is a virtue...

Many things can interrupt your landscaping project, from weather to your grandmother’s birthday. Most good landscape designers are happy to keep working with you on your project provided you can stay focused and clear on what you want. To help keep the project moving, however, it is best to have consulted as many people and done all your homework as early in the piece as possible. More time spent in the planning process will mean less time spent redoing the garden when you realise something just doesn’t work.

4. Consider your environment and lifestyle when choosing plants

Similar to how you’ll choose the goldfish over the puppy for ease of care, selecting low maintenance plants that are more in keeping with your lifestyle is usually a much better decision. You need to also consider the climate where you live – for example, a dry, hot garden exposed to lots of sunlight may not be the best place for large, leafy ferns. Usually you can find a huge variety of plants that will thrive in your garden, as well as being able to design the garden to perhaps take advantage of that shady corner. Your landscaper will most likely be more than happy to give you advice.

5. Finding the tradesman right for you
