Keeping your Home Safe

Author: Service Central

Keeping your home safe need not be difficult. By following these home security tips you are well on the way to a secure home for yourself and your family. In addition, when moving into a new home you may wish to ask your local police, local council or neighbourhood watch for information about home invasions, burglaries and theft in your area. They may also have some home security tips that help you secure your home.

Home Security in Your Neighbourhood

The key to home security is neighborhood security. Keeping your streets safe and keeping your neighbours safe will help you keep your home secure as well. Some home security tips for your neighbourhood are:

  • Report broken street lights to the local council. Well-lit areas mean less places to hide for burglars.
  • Report strangers you see loitering in your neighbourhood.
  • Develop good relationships with your neighbours and learn to count on each other as support to keep the neighbourhood safe.

Home Security in Your New Home

When you've moved into a new home you may wish to ensure that you're new home is secure. Some home security tips for your new home include:

  • Replacing all of your locks. This ensures previous tenants or owners can no longer enter your home with old keys they may have kept.
  • Installing a home alarm. Or if the home already has a home alarm you may wish to set up a home alarm monitoring service with a local security company.

External Home Security

When checking whether your home is safe the best place to start is by looking at the outside doors of your home. Here are some questions to ask yourself:

  • Do the external doors have deadlocks?
  • If you have sliding doors, do your locks stop the doors from being lifted off the rails?
  • Do you have security bars or security grills?
  • Is your garage and shed safe and secure?
  • Do your garden gates have locks? Are they secure? If they have padlocks are the locks resistant to weather?

You may also wish to speak with Home Security Professionals in your area for more information about how to keep your home safe.
